Karim
Clouden is a native New Yorker currently residing in the Maryland/DC
metropolitan area. He is the proud father of two lovely girls,
Nia age 6, and Emoni age 12 who also happens to be an aspiring
actress and model. Coming from a HUGE family that is not short
on comedians, Karim’s talent was noticed early at a young
age. In Elementary school because of his commanding voice, teachers
often tabbed him for the lead role in school plays and to be
the announcer at assemblies.
A natural mimic, Karim would often
find himself doing dead-on impersonations….without even
knowing he was doing it! Once, while telling a friend a work
related story that involved 3 different people, Karim found himself
confused when his friend’s laughter cut him off in the
middle of the story. It was confusing because the story being
told wasn’t particularly supposed to be humorous.
The exchange
went something like this:
Friend: (Laughter)
Karim: What?
Friend: Why is that every time you repeat what
somebody says, you have to use their voice to do it? Haha, man
you missed your calling!
The last part got Karim thinking. “Did I miss my calling?” Since
he was still alive, the answer turned out to be a resounding, “NO”.
He believed that he was blessed with this talent to do more than
just be a “funny storyteller”. It was at that point
Karim became determined to make his voice over dreams a reality.
He began to study voice over techniques and familiarized himself
with some of the best in the business. Karim enrolled in the
Broadcasting Institute of Maryland as a news/sports major. Graduating
in 2004, Karim credits his time at BIM with instilling the confidence
that he could be successful in the field of voice overs. Among
some of his influences Karim counts Don LaFontaine, Rodney Saulsberry,
the legendary Mel Blanc, and Susan Berkley. Attending Susan’s
voice over bootcamp in New York, Karim learned a great deal from
her. Susan taught Karim that it’s not about the “sound” of
one’s voice, but the “believability” of it.
After all, voice over acting is just that…Acting! That
just happens to be a talent that Karim Clouden has no shortage
of.
